The Best Flax Wraps

Please read about the benefits of Flax here. I already told you I love the stuff, and I’m looking for new ways to incorporate them in my daily meals.

I can’t remember the last time I had a Shawarma. Gawd! I used to be a Shawarma freak, I would buy dozens and freeze, then warm one for breakfast. However, my hips and my wallet didn’t love me for that. And my WOE doesn’t like me having empty carbs.

The Best Flax Wraps

Flax to the rescue! I recently read the book Wheat Belly and I found a Flax wrap recipe on the blog. I tried it as written, and I really didn’t like it too much. I think it was too Flax-y for my taste. So, I adapted it, and I love it!

I fill the wrap with all sorts. Chicken, beef, fish, vegetables…the possibilities are endless. So far, all the combinations have been fantastic.

Try it, and let me know how you like it.

The Best Flax Wraps

This serves 1

  • 2 tablespoons of ground Flax
  • 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
    Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of ground ginger
  • Pinch of paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of water

Mix all the ingredients to form a smooth batter. I use my blender for this.

Lightly grease or spray a non stick frying pan. Place pan over medium-high heat.

Pour batter into the pan, and spread to cover the whole surface.

Cook for 2 minutes, flip, and cook for another 2 minutes.

Remove, and fill with anything you like.

Hi, my name is Chidinma. I’ve been happily married for 4+ years (actually almost 6 years now), and my husband and I have been trying to have our own children for almost all the time we’ve been married, with no success…yet. We haven’t lost hope (far from it), and we believe it will happen very soon.

Abeg wat is flax? Neva heard of it b4? Is it sold in d mkt or just in supermarkets? But come to think of it,the only unhealth aspect of a shawarma is d cream abi? So can’t it be substitited wit a low carb cream or olive oil and soy sauce?

Hi Miriam. Actually fat is not bad, ie the cream. It’s even better (fertility-wise) to eat full fat mayonnaise than to eat low fat mayo (which ALWAYS has more sugar to make it taste better). Hence, the cream isn’t the problem with it.

The problem with Shawarma is the wrap itself. It’s made of white flour, which is something I, personally, try to avoid per fibroids. HACE still eats regular pasta (he’s not a shawarma freak) once in a while, but I don’t eat white flour.

The only place I’ve seen Flax in Abuja (apart from Rose) is the GMC Store in Ceddi Plaza.
